TMS for Major Depressive Disorder

What is TMS?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive technique for brain stimulation that has been used in neuroscientific and clinical research worldwide for over 30 years. Magstim TMS Therapy uses brief bursts of magnetic energy to activate nerve cells in the brain. These magnetic pulses are targeted to the brain region responsible for emotional judgment and mood regulation. The rapid pulses from the TMS system pass through the skull, producing an electric current in the brain area beneath the treatment coil. This current triggers neuron firing and stimulates adjacent brain cells. TMS is FDA approved and proven to be highly effective.

Does it work?

Numerous studies have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of TMS in MDD, especially in treatment-resistant patients who have not responded to antidepressants. Approximately 58% of treatment-resistant patients respond positively to TMS therapy.

What is spravato?

Spravato® (esketamine) is the first FDA-approved nasal spray for treating depressive symptoms and treatment-resistant depression, especially effective when traditional treatments fail. It is easy to use by simply spraying the medication into your nasal passages, targeting brain receptors that inhibit glutamate production, a neurotransmitter essential for brain function often reduced in depression. By blocking these receptors, esketamine boosts glutamate levels and improves mood. This treatment is covered by insurance, and you can drive yourself to appointments. If other treatments haven’t worked, we're here to help.

Is it proven to reduce symptoms?

In studies involving patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), those who took Spravato alongside an oral antidepressant showed a greater reduction in depressive symptoms at 24 hours compared to those who received a placebo plus an oral antidepressant. Additional symptom reduction was shown over a four-week treatment period.
